September 29, 2025 – Bracebridge, ON
Georgian College has announced that it will close its Muskoka campus in Bracebridge by fall 2026. This is a loss for our community, as Georgian has contributed to workforce development and provided skills training in high-demand sectors such as construction and healthcare, as well as upskilling opportunities through academic and career preparation programs. Students who once had access to post-secondary education and training close to home will now need to travel much farther outside the region to pursue those opportunities, particularly with the accompanying closure of Georgian’s Orillia campus.
Advocacy and education are two of the core pillars of the Chamber’s strategic plan. We are here to listen to our members, understand how this change may affect them, and ensure their perspectives are part of the conversation with decision-makers at every level. This transition underscores the importance of exploring new workforce development solutions and partnerships to ensure businesses have access to the talent they need and residents can continue to build their careers here at home.
We invite businesses and organizations to share their views with us so that we can effectively advocate for the needs and priorities of our local business community. The departure of Georgian College will be felt not only by students and staff but also by local employers who rely on a strong talent pipeline. The Chamber remains committed to supporting our members and helping shape the next chapter for Bracebridge — one where workforce development, business growth, and access to education remain priorities for our community’s future.
